Question :
A casino in the United Kingdom has withdrawn my membership after saying I do not gamble enough. Can I complain to the Gambling Commission?
Answer :
You won’t get very far by complaining to the Gambling Commission in this case. If a casino decides to exclude a customer for any sort of commercial reason, the Gambling Commission does not have a remit to become involved. The same tends to be true in other jurisdictions - casinos have an obligation to ensure their games are fair, but they do not have to demonstrate that they treat their customers fairly! Your best recourse is to simply “vote with your feet” and join another casino.
Online casinos should not ever withdraw membership through inactivity - though some do charge an “inactivity fee” if you don’t play for a certain period of time (often set at 180 days). This can catch you out if you are an infrequent player or have several online casino accounts. See our guide to reputable casinos and reputable poker sites for details of which sites play fair and which sites you should avoid.
