Gambling Systems : Labouchere System

This gambling system is sometimes called “The Neapolitan Martingale System”.

This is a slightly more complicated system than the others we have looked at in this series, but is worth the trouble to master because it allows you to vary your betting pattern depending on how much you’re trying to win. You establish a series of numbers that adds up to your target win. For example if your target is to win 25 times your stake then your series of numbers might be 1+2+4+8+10 (=25). Add the first and last numbers in the series to determine your initial bet (1+10=11). If you win, these numbers are cancelled and you move to the next two numbers in the series (2+8=10), continuing inwards along the series until you reach your target. If you lose, the value of the bet is added to the series and this then has to be cancelled before you move inwards. So, for example if you lose with the initial bet of 11, the sequence becomes 1,2,4,8,10,11.
