Online Gambling Roundup Aug-15-09

Good Morning, it is time once again to take a look at what is making the news in the online gambling world. Here is our Saturday roundup. Hope you’re recovering from your working week.

First up today, over at 32red they are

Discussing Popular Characters In Gambling Movies

In an idea pinched straight from a popular gambling forum, I decided to ask around the office to find out the staff’s favourite gambling movie characters. It’s only when I started asking did I realise just how many of the film’s quintessential characters stem from casino, betting or poker flicks. It also means I now have an extensive list of movies to rent out this weekend! :)

#10. Kevin Spacey as Prof Mickey Rosa in 21. A top film that looks at the true story behind some egg heads from MIT making a packet from a casino. Highly entertaining stuff and, as always, Spacey’s performance is commanding.

We can’t quite match the MIT boys’ performance, but if “21″ is your number then you might find our blackjack cheat sheet useful on your casino travels…

#9. Mel Gibson as Bret Maverick in Maverick. No one mentioned this film, but I like it so it’s on the list. Buwhaha.

#8. Danny Ocean (George Clooney). This is one smooth operator but we’re an old fashioned bunch here, so more people preferred Sinatra’s performance in the same role (#5).

You can read who makes the top 7, and the rest of Saturday’s post, over at the 32Red blog.

Have Faith In Border Patrol

for the big race of the day…

Plenty of possibles in a strong renewal of this Group 2 contest but Border Patrol could prove the one to be with. He has progressed very well this year and looks the type to excel at this seven furlong trip. Regal Parade continues to go from strength to strength and will be a threat once more, as will the class-dropping Evasive on his first run for new connections.

Weekend poker chat at UltimateBet

is our next port of call :

During the political correctness craze of the 90s, many doctors abandoned the term “patient”, preferring to call a person seeking treatment a “client”. The word patient sort of implies that people are passive in the state of their health. As if they can only wait patiently for their doctor to conjure up some sort of medicinal magic before they can get better. Of course there are no patients in poker, only players. It wouldn’t really be a stretch to call UB players clients, but that would only cause confusion since we regularly refer to our software as our client.

Still, we are constantly assessing the health of our software and we’re taking an active approach by listening to poker pros and our customers to build the best possible poker experience. Lately we’ve been scouring the forums, soliciting feedback, and taking the pulse of these blogs to gauge our progress.

We rate UltimateBet’s software as amongst the very best out there already, but you can read how they compare to their rivals over at our sister site, Golden Rule Of Poker

Over the coming weeks we’ll be rolling out some additional security features. We’re also going to clean up some of the animations to improve the game play. It’s going to be even easier to get to the table of your choice.

Now is your chance to be the doctor. Assist the poker community at large by figuring out what ails you at the tables. Give us your diagnosis. You can help us, and help yourself in the process, by giving us your feedback. Let us know what you love and hate. Tell us what features you’d like to see. Do you find something annoying? Are there things you can’t live without? You can always email us directly or blog away.

Apologies for cutting the highly dedicated UltimateBet bloggers off in mid-flow, but you can read the rest of Saturday’s post or contribute to their software discussion at the UltimateBet blog. Saturday is supposed to be a day off work, after all…
