  Mah Jong Rules

If you already know how to play Gin Rummy then you will recognise much of the game of Mah-Jong - it is based on the same principle, though it is played with tiles rather than cards.  The object is to get rid of all your tiles by making certain combinations with your tiles, and points are awarded depending on the combinations you manage to make.  In a traditional game of Mah-Jong, four players compete.  However on-line you can play a solo version or against as many opponents as you like. Tiles all have a different "start value" (a bit like the letters in a game of scrabble).  For example, in GameAccount's version ("Mah-Jong Airplane"), your score for making pairs of tiles is the "start value" of the tile multiplied by the number of tiles left.  The start values of the tiles range from 1 x the number of tiles left to 7 x the number of tiles left.  Although there is a lot of luck involved in the game (as it depends on the tiles you get), there is also a lot of skill involved too, and an experienced player will make short work of a novice.  Don't play Mah Jong for money until you have learnt how to play it well!  Once you have started playing, you will find the game maddeningly addictive, and before you know it you will be an expert player yourself.
