Note : on a European wheel, when a player makes any even money bet (such as betting on an odd number to come up) they do not lose if the ball lands on zero. Instead the bet stays where it was and if the player wins on the next spin they get their stake back (without any winnings).
Players bet on a variety of different outcomes before the wheel spins or while it is spinning. The dealer will signal when no more bets are allowed and when the ball has landed on a particular number the dealer will rake in losing bets and pay winning bets according to set odds:
Red or black number Evens
Even or odd number Evens
Low (1-18) or High (19-36) Evens
First 12 (1-12), Second 12 (13-24) or Third 12 (25-36) 2-1
First, Second or Third column (each twelve numbers) 2-1
Line bet (six numbers, three either side of line where chip
is placed) 5-1
Line bet on first line (5 numbers, including the 0 and 00
on US wheels) 6-1
Square bet (4 numbers around where chip is placed) 8-1
